How to do Lakshmi pooja at home on Diwali



The best time to perform Lakshmi pooja on Diwali is the evening. The best Muhurat for the Lakshmi puja might fall between 6 pm and 8 pm and hence you can perform the puja anytime during this period.

For Diwali most households would have worn a new and clean look for facilitating the celebrations. If you have already cleaned the household, just set up the altar at the puja room and prepare for the puja.

Spread a clean red cloth and spread some rice on it. Place a kalash in the middle of the rice bed. The kalsh arrangement can follow your family tradition with some ingredients like mango leaves, rice, Ganga water, coconut, spices, vermilion, turmeric powder, chandan and flowers. The kalash set up and decorated is the seat of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Light the lamp and place the pictures or idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Mahalakshmi. Decorate the images with flowers.

Start with Ganapati puja. Offer flowers, coconut and fruits to Lord Ganesh.

Move on to Lakshmi puja. Offer flowers, coconut and fruits to Goddess Lakshmi. Prostrate in front of the idol and say your prayers for the welfare of the family.

Some people perform puja to the cash chest or the cash box in the household. Some people place a bowl of coins in front of the puja altar as a mark of inviting prosperity.

Chant the mantras of Lakshmi and perform arati to conclude the puja. Distribute sweets and Prasad to the visitors and family members.
