Here’s a look at what is allowed and what is not during the weekend lockdown and night curfew in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government on Saturday announced night curfew and weekend lockdown which will remain effective till April 30 in the entire state to curb the spread of COVID-19. The second wave of infections in India has been bigger than the first, with daily cases crossing the 1 lakh mark (of which around 57% is from Maharashtra) including 513 deaths on May 4, forcing the state government to impose tighter restrictions.

The night curfew will come into effect from 8 pm to 7 am in every district. Section 144 is being imposed during the day i.e more than five people at one place are prohibited to gather. The state will also go under weekend lockdown from Friday evening 8 pm to Monday 7 am.

Here’s list of services/activities which are permitted or not by the state government during night curfew and weekend lockdown —

1. Only essential services like medical shops will be open during the night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am, everything else will remain shut.
2. Public parks and playgrounds will be closed.
3. Movie theatres and drama theatres will not be functioning.
4. Commuters taking public transport like Mumbai’s local trains will have to strictly follow COVID-19 norms. One has to mandatorily wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.
5. Government offices will work at 50% capacity, rest of the employees will work from home except for staff on essential services duty like pandemic management.
6. Shoots of movies and serials are permitted to continue, but production houses need to avoid large gatherings at the location.
7. Markets are allowed to continue with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Construction work can also continue if there is an accommodation facility for workers.
8. Eating joints, bars and malls will have to close by 8 pm and there will be restrictions on the operations.
9. Salons, beauty parlours shall remain closed in the entire state.
10. Religious places like temples, mosques will have to strictly abide by the COVID-19 rules.
11. Transportation services like taxis, rickshaws or private vehicles will commute with 50% capacity during the day and are not allowed to travel during the night curfew.

Maharashtra reported 57,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time on Sunday, an alarming situation for the state.
