Guj: AMC chief quarantined after contact with COVID-19 patient

Guj: AMC chief quarantined after contact with COVID-19 patient
Ahmedabad, May 5 () Municipal commissioner ofGujarat's Ahmedabad city Vijay Nehra was placed underquarantine after he reportedly came in contact with a COVID-19patient, an official stated on Tuesday.

The civic chief has been replaced by vice-chairman andCEO of Gujarat Maritime Board Mukesh Kumar, while Rajiv KumarGupta, additional chief secretary of the Forests andEnvironment department, will supervise and coordinatecoronavirus-related activities in the city, a release stated.

The government has also appointed additional chiefsecretary of the Revenue department Pankaj Kumar forsupervision and coordination of health works, it stated.

Principal Secretary of health Jayanti Ravi saidcertain important decisions were taken regarding Ahmedabad, asthe number of COVID-19 cases and deaths were rising in thecity.

"Nehra was home quarantined. Three senior officershave been appointed to manage virus cases in the city. Chiefprincipal secretary in Chief Minister's Office K Kailashnathanvisited the AMC and held a meeting with senior officers on howto tackle the situation," Ravi said.

Nehra has been managing and supervising coronavirussituation in the city that accounts for nearly 70 per cent oftotal COVID-19 cases in the state.

The city has also witnessed 234 deaths due tocoronavirus, with around 24 patients succumbing to theinfection on a daily basis over the past few days.

In a briefing earlier, Nehra had claimed that thegrowth rate of active cases in the city was brought down to 5per cent from 40 per cent a few weeks ago. KA PDARU ARU
