FIR filed against JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and others for damaging property

• An FIR is filed against JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others for allegedly vandalising the university property, a day before the mob attack.
  
• JNU administration has named them as those responsible for damaging the serving rooms and hampering the online exam registration process.
  
• Another FIR is filed against unidentified people who carried out the violent mob attack that left over 20 JNU students and teachers severely injured.
  

The Delhi Police filed an FIR against JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others for vandalising university property, a day before the mob attack. The JNU administration said that they are responsible for damaging serving rooms and hampering online exam registration process.


Yet another RSS-affiliated student group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) too had pointed out that Leftist student groups are behind the attack.

"ABVP members have been brutally attacked by students affiliated to Left student organisations — SFI, AISA and DSF. Around 25 students have been seriously injured in this attack and there is no information about the whereabouts of 11 students. Many ABVP members are being attacked in hostels and hostels are being vandalised by the Leftist goons," claimed Durgesh Kumar, president ABVP JNU, in a statement.

However, Ghosh who is affiliated with SFI, is one of those injured during the Sunday attack. She was admitted to AIIMS hospital yesterday but discharged later.

CAA - Left, right and wrong

Both the student groups - right wing and left leaning - were both at loggerheads over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA, passed by the government late last year. While ABVP supports it, others oppose it for its ‘discrimination’ over religion while accpeting immigrants.

The police had filed an FIR against unidentified people for the Sunday attack. The masked miscreants armed with iron rods and stones left students and teachers severely injured. A case has been registered for rioting and damage to property.

In the meanwhile, the mob attack has left many students and citizens across the country angry. As many as eight cities - Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Thiruvantapuram -- are protesting against the attack. In fact, students from London and Oxford too showed solidarity with their brethren by organising protests, yesterday.
