Fight against COVID-19: Odisha salutes its women warriors

Bhubaneswar, Apr 11 () The Odisha government onSaturday lauded the women who are leading from the front inthe battle against novel coronavirus.

Lady doctors and nurses are screening suspects andtreating patients at hospitals, while auxiliary nursemidwives, Anganwadi and ASHA workers are going from house tohouse to check the health of people, the state's health andfamily welfare department said.

Managing Director of National Health Mission SaliniPandit is coordinating surveillance, sample collection andtesting while MD of Odisha State Medical Corporation LimitedYamini Sarangi is procuring drugs, sanitiser, equipment andall protective gears for health care personnel.

"Mothers and sisters are also fighters as they aremanaging homes in this crisis period, asking all to wash handsfrequently and putting pressure on the male members of thehouse not to move out unnecessarily," the department said in astatement.

Scientists who are leading testing laboratories at theRegional Medical Research Center (RMRC), the AIIMS and the SCBMedical College and Hospital are also women, the statementsaid.

While RMRC director Sanghamitra Pati has been ensuringaccurate testing of COVID-19 patients, AIIMS director BGithanjali looks after the treatment of coronavirus patients.Jayashree Mohanty is in charge of the COVID-19 tests in theSCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.

Odisha's Mission Shakti director Sujata Karthikeyanhas been playing a key role by engaging about 70 lakh membersof self-help groups in creating awareness on the disease,manufacturing masks, and cooking food for distressed people inrural and urban pockets.

When it comes to the problems of migrant workers, bothfrom the state and outside, Labour department secretary AnuGarg has been coordinating with other states and districtcollectors of Odisha to ensure safe keeping of Guest workersfrom other states, the statement said. AAMNN NN
