One death reported almost every hour in Delhi due to COVID-19 - 591 new cases in the national capital in one day

The coronavirus pandemic took away 23 lives in the past 24 hours in the national capital. The Delhi Heath Department speaking to the media on Saturday said that 591 new cases had been registered in the city, taking the total to 12,910

With 23 deaths in 24 hours, the national capital recorded one death almost every hour. The death toll rose to 231. With the new cases, Saturday became the fifth consecutive day when Delhi saw 500 or more cases due to coronavirus. On Friday, 660 new cases had been reported which has been the largest spike.

In a bulletin issued on Saturday, the Health Department said the death toll due to the pandemic had risen to 231 and the total number of cases mounted to 12,910 after 591 more people tested positive. Out of the total cases, 6,412 are active, and at least 6,267 patients have recovered from the disease so far, the Health Department said.

It, however, added the cumulative death figures referred to fatalities where the primary cause of death was found to be COVID-19, as per the report of the Death Audit Committee on the basis of case sheets received from various hospitals.

On Friday, the number of cases were 12,319, including 208 deaths.
