COVID-19 tally in J-K rises to 8,429 with 183 fresh cases; death toll reaches 132

Srinagar, July 5 () The total number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir mounted to 8,429 on Sunday after 183 fresh infections were detected, while the death toll in the Union Territory reached 132 following the demise of five patients over the past 24 hours, officials said.

The five fatalities were reported from Kashmir, they said. This has taken the death toll due to coronavirus to 132 in the UT.

Of these, 14 belonged to Jammu province and 118 were from Kashmir division, the officials said.

At present, there are 3,042 active cases in the Union Territory, while a total of 5,255 patients have recovered from the infection.

Fifty-one fresh COVID-19 cases were reported from the Jammu region, 132 were reported from the Kashmir Valley, the officials said.

The fresh cases detected on Sunday include 32 people who had returned to the Union Territory recently.

Srinagar district in central Kashmir recorded a maximum of 59 cases on Sunday, followed by 20 in Kupwara district in the north. Three districts –- Poonch, Reasi and Kishtwar -- did not have any fresh case in the past 24 hours.

The total number of infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 8,429.
