The lockdown comes as a reaction to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city

Nagpur reported over 1,800 cases in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra accounts for almost 60 percent of the new daily cases in India

It has reported the highest daily new COVID-19 cases at 13,659 on March 10

Earlier, the government imposed a ‘Janata Curfew’ for three days in Jalgaon

It was imposed on Monday, March 8, and was enforced between 8am to 8pm.

More parts of the state could go into lockdown, according to CM Uddhav Thackeray

"Some areas of Maharashtra will witness strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection,” he told reporters.

One of those areas may be the city of Mumbai

It has been recording over 1,000 cases for a week now. According to Mumbai’s municipality, ‘all options’ are open.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra have been increasing since February

Maharashtra has come up with a seven-point action plan, which includes testing of close contacts, fast contact-tracing, mass testing in hot-spots and audit of deaths.
