India is once again witnessing an uptick in daily COVID-19 tally after a massive decline for 11 weeks. The national capital is one of the top states going through an enormous increase in the daily COVID-19 cases in the past 15 days.

The COVID-19 situation in Delhi has surged by 500% in the last 15 days, reveals a new survey conducted by LocalCircles, which is a community-based social network platform.

The survey report further said that around 19% of residents in the Delhi and NCR (national capital region) said that one or more people in their network have or had COVID-19 in the last 15 days. The test positivity rate (TPR) went up from 0.7% on April 2 to 5.33% on April 16, which makes it a 650% increase in the TPR.

When asked ‘How many individuals (including children) do you have in your close social network (family, friends, neighbours, or colleagues) that have or had COVID-19 in the last 15 days?’, 70% of the respondents said ‘No one in the last 15 days’, while 11% said ‘1 or 2 people’, and 8% said ‘3-4 people’.

Around 67% of the respondents were men and 33% of them were women, in the LocalCircles survey.

Delhi, on Saturday, reported 461 cases and two deaths, while on Sunday it recorded 517 new cases, which is 56 more than the previous day.

The national capital, as of April 18, has 9,662 vacant beds for COVID-19-19 patients, 9,156 vacant Covid-19 oxygen beds and 2,174 ICU beds in hospitals.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will also hold a meeting on April 20 due to rising cases in the state. DDMA may consider reimposing the mandatory rule of wearing face masks in public.
