COVID-19: Delhi records a 500% spike in cases in the last 15 days

- Delhi is among the few states which are currently witnessing a spike in daily COVID-19 cases.
- The survey suggested that 19% of Delhi citizens said that one or more people in their network have or had COVID-19 in the last 15 days.
- The test positivity rate (TPR) went up from 0.7% on April 2 to 5.33% on April 16, which makes it a 650% increase in the TPR.

India is once again witnessing an uptick in daily COVID-19 tally after a massive decline for 11 weeks. The national capital is one of the top states going through an enormous increase in the daily COVID-19 cases in the past 15 days.The COVID-19 situation in Delhi has surged by 500% in the last 15 days, reveals a new survey conducted by LocalCircles, which is a community-based social network platform.
The survey report further said that around 19% of residents in the Delhi and NCR (national capital region) said that one or more people in their network have or had COVID-19 in the last 15 days. The test positivity rate (TPR) went up from 0.7% on April 2 to 5.33% on April 16, which makes it a 650% increase in the TPR.
When asked ‘How many individuals (including children) do you have in your close social network (family, friends, neighbours, or colleagues) that have or had COVID-19 in the last 15 days?’, 70% of the respondents said ‘No one in the last 15 days’, while 11% said ‘1 or 2 people’, and 8% said ‘3-4 people’.
Around 67% of the respondents were men and 33% of them were women, in the LocalCircles survey.

The national capital, as of April 18, has 9,662 vacant beds for COVID-19-19 patients, 9,156 vacant Covid-19 oxygen beds and 2,174 ICU beds in hospitals.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will also hold a meeting on April 20 due to rising cases in the state. DDMA may consider reimposing the mandatory rule of wearing face masks in public.
