COVID-19 cases breach 15K mark in Karnataka;947 new cases and 20 deaths

Bengaluru, June 30 () COVID-19 cases in Karnataka breached the 15,000 mark on Tuesday, with the state reporting 947 new cases and 20 related fatalities, taking the death toll to 246, the health department said.

The day also saw 235 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Out of the fresh infections reported today, a whopping 503 cases were from Bengaluru urban alone.

As of June 30 evening, cumulatively 15,242 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 246 deaths and 7,918 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

It said out of 7,074 active cases, 6,803 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and stable, while 271 are in ICU.

The 20 dead include six from Ballari, four from Bengaluru urban, two each from Haveri, Vijayapura and Dharwad, and one each from Kolar, Davangere, Belagavi and Mysuru.

The deceased include ten men between 32-83 years and ten women between 31-85 years.

While most of the dead had history of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), three were with Influenza-like illness (ILI), the bulletin said.

Two were contacts of patients already tested positive and one person had travel history from Saudi and the other person's contact is under investigation.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru urban accounted for 503 cases, followed by Ballari 61, Haveri 49, Dakshina Kannada 44, Uttara Kannada 40, Vijayapura 39, Shivamogga 22, Bengaluru rural 21, 17 each from Bidar and Dharwad, Hassan 16, 15 each from Kalaburagi and Raichur, Chikkaballapura 13, 12 each from Davangere and Ramanagara.

Chikkamagaluru reported 10 cases, while nine each were recorded from Udupi and Mysuru, four each from Bagalkote and Kodagu, three each from Kolar and Chitradurga, two each from Yadgir, Mandya, Belagavi and Gadag, and Tumakuru 1.

Bengaluru urban district tops the list of positive cases, with 4,555 infections, followed by Kalaburagi 1,436 and Udupi 1,206.

Among discharges, Kalaburagi tops the list with 1,095 discharges, followed by Udupi 1,056 and Yadgir 824.

A total of 6,20,747 samples were tested so far, out of which 15,588 were tested on Tuesday alone, it said.

According to the bulletin, 5,89,637 samples have been reported as negative, and out of them 14,300 were reported negative today. KSU BN WELCOME BN WELCOME
