COVID-19: Assam CM sets up advisory panel to revive economy

Guwahati, May 3 () Assam Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal on Sunday constituted an advisory committee to suggestmeasures to revive the state's economy, which is hit by thecoronavirus outbreak.

The eight-member committee, led by retired IAS officerSubhash Das, will study various aspects of the economicactivities in the state and advise the government to bring theeconomy back on track.

Assam Agricultural University's former vice chancellorDr K M Bujarbarua, Gauhati University's professor Dr MadhurjyaBezbarua, Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change andDevelopment's professor Dr Joydeep Barua and Rashtriya GraminVikash Nidhi's managing director Dr Amiya Sarma are part ofthe advisory panel.

ARIAS Society's agribusiness consultant GautamGoswami, Bharatiya Kishan Sangha's state organising secretaryKrishnakanta Bora and noted journalist Adip Kumar Phukan arealso members of the committee.

The chief minister had, on April 28, held aninteractive session with 29 eminent economists of the state,who suggested several long and short term steps to overcomethe economic slowdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak. DGBDC BDC
