List of red zones in Tamil Nadu from Chennai to Coimbatore to Tiruppur as Kottayam and Idukki join the ranks

  • Most of Tamil Nadu’s districts have been declared red zones with only two districts in the green — Krishnagiri and Mayiladuthurai.
  • The state’s capital city, Chennai, has a whopping 570 confirmed cases with 157 locations declared to be containment zones.
  • Over 157 locations within the city have been declared as containment zones.
Tamil Nadu’s Kottayam and Idukki districts have been added to the list of red zones in the state as the number of Coronavirus cases continue to rise.

However, they are far from the worst-affected districts in the state. Chennai tops the charts with over 570 confirmed cases. As many as 18% of the residents are confined to their homes with 157 locations declared to be containment zones.

These areas have been blocked off with barricades to prevent the entry and exit of people in an attempt to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the Union Health Ministry, red zones are areas which have been witnessing a significant number of coronavirus infections. To keep the infection from spreading from the red zones to other areas, authorities have put strict restrictions on the movement of public and traffic.

In Tamil Nadu, any district with 20 cases or more is a red zone. Any area which has between 10 to 20 cases in an orange district. Green zones are areas that have no active coronavirus cases at all, which as of now is only Krishnagiri and Mayiladuthurai.

On April 27, Tamil Nadu reported 52 new Covid-19 cases bringing the total tally of active cases to 1,937.
