Coronavirus: Kolkata airport makes arrangements for contact- less proedures
Kolkata, May 16 () Arrangements for contact-lesstravel and social distancing norms have been readied at thecity airport to keep passengers safe from COVID-19, a topairport official said on Saturday.

An "absolute contact-less procedure" with "leastpossible surface touch" will be provided to passengers fromthe time of entering the airport till boarding the flightunder the new arrangement.

Director of N S C Bose International Airport KaushikBhattacharya said, "We have taken all measures to keep theentire operations touch-free. We will entirely go by thedirectives of the Centre in this regard."

From collecting boarding pass to tagging of luggage,social distancing norms will be strictly followed and therewill be zero contact with personnel at the counters, airportsources said.

Apart from temperature checking with thermal guns, themandatory security check and frisking will be done bymaintaining a necessary gap between the passenger and securitypersonnel, the sources said.

Tickets and identity cards will be checked by the CISFpersonnel without any physical contact. Passengers will bescanned by a machine to match identity cards, during whichthey may be required to briefly remove their masks.

The travellers will not have any contact with kiosksthat will dispense boarding passes. Passengers are onlyrequired to display their mobiles phones or ticket withidentity card to the person designated to operate the machine.

The passengers will have to collect it after it hasbeen dispensed from the kiosk.

There will be mandatory washing of hands beforeboarding and a gap in seating arrangements inside theterminal, they said.

A passenger cannot move around in the lounge areawhile waiting for flight and only basic utility shops will beallowed to open including tea and coffee shops, the sourcessaid.

All necessary santisation measures are already inforce in the airport and disinfectants are being sprayed on aregular basis.

From handling of cargo carriers to evacuation flightof foreign nationals from the airport during the lockdownperiod, the airport has been working on a limited scale evenduring this period, the sources said.

The country has been under lockdown since March 25 tocurb the spread of the novel coronavirus with all commercialpassenger flight operations having been suspended for thelockdown period.

Flight operations to some virus-affected countrieslike China were suspended even before March 25.
