India records highest 1-day spur in Covid-19 cases which rose to 1,965, leaving 50 dead

• The Health Ministry said that 50 deaths had been reported in India so far, with the highest number from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat, where nine and six deaths were reported, respectively.
  
• A health department team on a visit to locate persons reportedly infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Indore's Tat Patti Bakhal area was pelted with stones.
  
• The Odisha government has traced and tested 20 persons associated with the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi, but reports of 15 of them have come negative for Coronavirus.

It is day ninth of a 21-day lockdown here in India. As the country entered the critical phase of Coronavirus pandemic, it recorded the highest one day spur in the number of infected people who attended Nizamuddin Markaz Tablighi Jamaat.

The Ministry of Health data shows that there are 1,965 infected people, out of which 150 recovered and 50 died.

The Health Ministry, in its evening update, said that 50 deaths had been reported in India so far, with the highest nine from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat, where six deaths were reported.

Medical team pelted with stones in MP's Indore

A health department team on a visit to locate persons reportedly infected with the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Indore's Tat Patti Bakhal area was pelted with stones. The health team consisted of five persons, including three doctors.

"The moment we started enquiring about a particular person's health, people began protesting and were joined by others who resorted to pelting stones. Policemen standing nearby came to our rescue," a woman doctor said.

Indore's Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Pravin Jadia said: , Our team is working to protect people from the coronavirus infection. However, people pelted stones at them. It was an unfortunate incident."

"Two women doctors somehow protected themselves by hiding in the tehsildar's vehicle," said Jadia.

Three more die of COVID-19 in Telangana, toll rises to 9

Three more persons have died of COVID-19, and 30 new positive cases have been reported in Telangana taking the overall tally in the state to 127.

With the death of three persons, the toll rose to nine. All of them had attended Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi last month.

According to a statement released from the chief minister's office late Wednesday night, two persons died at government-run Gandhi Hospital while one succumbed at Yashoda, a private ,hospital. All the 30 who were tested positive had attended Nizamuddin Markaz meet of Tablighi Jamaat.

At a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao till midnight, the officials pointed out that the virus spread from those who attended Delhi meet to their family members and others.

Initially, the virus spread among those who came from abroad and through them it spread to others. However, they are all recovering. Many of them have been discharged, and none of those under treatment is critical.

15 associated with Tablighi event in Odisha test negative

The Odisha government has traced and tested 20 persons associated with the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi. However, reports of 15 of them have come negative for Coronavirus, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Of these 15 people, 12 are from Rourkela, each one from Kendrapara, Cuttack and Ganjam district, it said, adding that the remaining five reports are awaited.

COVID-19 positive cases rise to 24 in Bihar

The number of people who have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased to 24 in Bihar, officials said.

Bihar Health Society Monitoring Officer, Ragini Mishra said on Wednesday that three more persons, one each from Begusarai, Nalanda and Gaya, were found to be infected with the Coronavirus that claimed over 40 lives in India so far.

The patient from Begusarai, who tested positive, has returned from Dubai, and the one in Nalanda came back from Abu Dhabi. Besides, the COVID-19 patient of Gaya, a woman, returned to her home from Dubai, officials said.

A resident of Munger who had returned from Qatar and was infected with Coronavirus succumbed to the deadly virus in AIIMS, Patna on March 21. Two of his neighbours were also found to be COVID-19 positive as they had come in contact with him.

Big spike pushes COVID-19 cases in Andhra to 111

In the biggest spike in COVID-19 cases in a single day, as many as 67 persons tested positive in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 111.

Majority of them were believed to be those who attended the Tablighi Jamaat meeting in Delhi last month. According to the media bulletin released by the Health Department Wednesday night, 24 new cases were reported after 9 a.m.

Earlier in the day, 43 cases were reported.

Out of the total cases, Guntur accounted for a maximum of 20 cases. Kadapa, Krishna and Prakasam districts reported 15 each. Fourteen from West Godavari and 11 from Visakhapatnam tested positive. The cases were reported from 11 out of 13 districts.

The state had Monday reported 17 cases. Fourteen of them had attended the Tablighi meet.
