Coronavirus cases in India rise to 151,767 on May 27— with 54% active cases and 42% recovered

• The total count of COVID-19 infections jumped to 151,767 as per Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday (May 27).
• Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit Indian state with the total number of Covid-19 cases climbing to 54,758.
• Agra is witnessing a recovery rate of 87.47%, which has brought a sense of relief to the administration.
• Gujarat’s Covid-19 death toll reached 915 on Tuesday (May 26) as 27 more people succumbed to the dreaded virus.
• Maharashtra on Tuesday(May 26) notched a record 97 deaths, up by 21 over the previous high of 76 fatalities recorded last Tuesday (May 19).

The number of coronavirus cases in India crossed 150,000 mark with more than 6,387 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. The total count of COVID-19 infections jumped to 151,767 as per Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday (May 27).

According to the Health Ministry — of the total — 83,004 are active cases while at least 64,425 people have been cured of the disease. Meanwhile, at least 4,337 people have died due to the disease.

The average increase in cases has been 6,000 cases a day over the course of the past week, according to the Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit Indian state with the total number of Covid-19 cases climbing to 54,758. It’s followed by Gujarat which has 14,821 cases and Tamil Nadu with 17,728 cases. National capital’s tally crossed the 14,000-mark on Monday (May 25) with a gross total of 14,465 coronavirus cases.

With 87% recovery rate, corona spread slows down in Taj city

With six new cases, Agra’s COVID-19 tally till late Tuesday(May 26) evening was 870. The city is witnessing a recovery rate of 87.47%, which has brought a sense of relief to the administration.

The daily new cases of Covid-19 patients have remained under ten for over eleven days in a row. On Monday (May 25), there were seven new cases. The highest number of cases, 54, was on May 3. And since then, the recovery rate in the city has shown consistent improvement.

District Magistrate P.N.Singh said so far 761 had recovered and returned home. The number of active cases was 76. So far 12,384 samples had been collected, he said.

In neighbouring Firozabad, eight new cases were reported, and Mathura had seven new positive cases.

33 people including 12 cops test positive in Gurugram

With 33 more people including 12 cops tested positive of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 tally in Guguram touched 317.

The 12 police personnel who were tested positive were deployed in different containment zones while 21 others came in contact with patients who were earlier tested positive.

Of the total cases, 151 are active cases admitted in different private and government hospitals, whereas 166 have been discharged and ten are under close surveillance of health officials in quarantine centres.

118 positive cases have been recorded in Gurugram since lockdown 4.0.

ACP Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, PRO Gurugram Police said, “We are worried as the cops are getting infected despite quality safety gears been provided to them. We will soon hold a review meeting over this.”

Gujarat COVID toll 915— number of infected rises to 14,829

Gujarat’s Covid-19 death toll reached 915 on Tuesday (May 26) as 27 more people succumbed to the dreaded virus. With 361 new cases reported on Tuesday(May 26), the state’s count of corona positive cases climbed to 14,829.

The state has been reporting over 20 deaths daily from the beginning of the month. Another 27 patients succumbed to the virus on Tuesday(May 26), out of which Ahmedabad had the highest casualties, 23. A patient each from Kheda, Panchmahals, Patan and Surat also died on Tuesday(May 26).

On Tuesday(May 26), a total of 361 corona positive cases were detected in the state. Ahmedabad had the maximum number of cases with 251. Ahmedabad was followed by Surat 36, Vadodara 31, Sabarkantha 8, Gandhinagar 7, Jamnagar 5, Banaskantha, Mahisagar and Valsad with 3 each, Bhavnagar, Kutch, Aravalli and Navsari with 2 each and Junagadh, Panchmahals, Mahesana, Amreli, Patan and Rajkot with one positive case each.

Maha records staggering 97 Covid-19 deaths

Maharashtra on Tuesday(May 26) notched a record 97 deaths, up by 21 over the previous high of 76 fatalities recorded last Tuesday (May 19), health officials said.

The latest death toll includes a whopping 72 deaths in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) alone, besides 2,091 new cases which were reported from across the state on Tuesday(May 26). This comes to roughly one death every 15 minutes, and an average of 87 new cases recorded every hour.

The state has been recording 50-plus fatalities and over 2,000 new patients daily for the past ten days now. The previous highest figure of infections was 3,041 cases on May 24. With 97 fatalities, the state’s death toll has touched 1,792, and the total number of coronavirus patients increased from 52,667 on Monday (May 25) to 54,758 on Tuesday(May 26).

The health department said that of the total number of cases declared on Tuesday(May 26), 36,004 were active cases — swelling by 826 over Monday’s 35,178.

91 more test positive as J&K COVID-19 tally jumps to 1,759

Another 91 people tested positive in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday(May 26) as the total number of COVID-19 patients jumped to 1,759 in the Union Territory.

A statement issued by the information and public relations department said 91 more people tested positive, 54 in Jammu division and 37 in Kashmir division.

For the last two days, more people have tested positive in the Jammu division than in the Valley. The total number of COVID-19 patients in J&K since the beginning of the pandemic is now 1,759.

One more patient succumbed Tuesday(May 26) as the total number of those killed by the dreaded virus in J&K rose to 24. 833 patients have completely recovered out of infected patients. The total number of active cases in J&K is now 902 out of which 255 are in Jammu division and 647 in Kashmir division.
