Of the 1,694 fatalities recorded so far, Maharashtra tops the tally with 617 deaths, followed by Gujarat at 368, Madhya Pradesh at 176, West Bengal at 149, Rajasthan at 89, Delhi at 64, Uttar Pradesh at 56 and Andhra Pradesh at 36.

When it comes to confirmed cases in the country, Maharashtra tops the chart with a tally of 15,525. It is followed by Gujarat at 6,245, Delhi at 5,104, Tamil Nadu at 4,058, and Rajasthan with 3,158. The number of confirmed cases in Andhra Pradesh stands at 1,717, and in West Bengal, it is 1,344.
Seven test positive for COVID-19 in Odisha, total 176 cases in state
Seven people, six of whom recently returned from Gujarat and West Bengal, tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Tuesday, taking the number of cases in the state to 176, an official said.
Of the seven new cases, three hailed from Balasore, one from Ganjam, one from Rourkela in Sundargarh district, one from Jajpur district and another from Cuttack district.
The latest case was detected in Jajpur district with a 58-year-old man who returned from Kolkata. He was in quarantine after returning from the neighbouring state. With this the total number of COVID-19 cases in Jajpur mounted to 53, according to the Health Ministry official.
Agra conducts major pool sampling in the 42 hotspots
While the number of COVID-19 patients soared to 640 early Wednesday, with 15 deaths reported so far, the district administration in Agra claimed that there was no community spread of the virus so far and pool sampling was being done.
District Magistrate P.N. Singh said pool sampling was being conducted in a big way to identify the infected and reach the end of the chain in the 42 hot spots of the city. Health workers, police personnel and vegetable vendors are the new vulnerable groups.
Of the 640 cases, 241 have recovered and returned home. The police has sealed the district borders, and those arriving from outside have been being compulsorily quarantined.
Madhya Pradesh coronavirus cases cross 3,000 mark
With 107 persons testing positive overnight the coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh crossed the 3,049 mark on Tuesday night, the health department officials said.
The number of deaths was up by 11 in the same period taking the tally to 176. Five deaths were reported in Ujjain, two each in Indore and Jabalpur and one each in Satna and Bhopal. Indore remains the hottest spot accounting for 79 deaths. It has recorded 43 new confirmed cases taking the tally to 165.
Dhar reported 20 new cases in 24 hours, followed by Ujjain 18, eight each in Bhopal and Jabalpur, four in Raisen, two each in Khargone and Khandwa and one each in Anuppur and Tikamgarh.
Bhopal now has 571 cases, Ujjain (184), Jabalpur (106), Khargone (79), Dhar (75), Raisen (63), Khandwa (49) and three each in Anuppur and Tikamgarh.
J&K tally jumps to 741 after 15 more test positive
Fifteen more tested positive on Tuesday in J&K, taking the total number of Covid-19 patients in the Union Territory to 741.
An official statement said that out of the 15 new cases, 14 belong to the Kashmir division and one to the Jammu division.
So far, eight patients have died while 320 have completely recovered. The number of active cases in J&K is 413 out of whom 404 are in Kashmir division, and nine are in Jammu division.
79 new coronavirus cases take Pune district tally to 2,201
Pune district reported 79 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 2,201, health officials said on Tuesday.
The death toll reached 120 with five new patients succumbing to the infection, according to officials.
"Of the 79 cases, 63 were detected in Pune Municipal Corporation limits, which now has 1,939 patients. A dozen new cases in Pimpri-Chinchwad took the COVID-19 count there to 137," he said.
The number of cases in rural Pune and cantonment areas increased by four, taking the total to 125, he added.
COVID-19 tally in Delhi crosses 5000-mark; 206 new cases
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Delhi crossed the 5000-mark on Tuesday with 206 more people testing positive in the last 24 hours, the government said.
No COVID-19 death was reported for the third successive day on Monday, the Delhi government said. There are 3,573 active cases, and 1,468 patients have recovered so far, according to the Health Department.
The number of cases in Delhi now stands at 5,104. On May 3, Delhi had registered its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 427 new cases being reported.
