India’s COVID-19 cases rise to 5745 with 773 positive cases and 32 deaths in last 24 hours

  • The number of coronavirus cases in India stands at 5,745 with at least 402 people recovered and 149 deaths.
  • According to Health Ministry data, Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 1018 active cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 690 cases, while Delhi has 576.

It is day fifteen of a 21-day lockdown here in India. As the country entered the critical phase of Coronavirus pandemic, the number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 5,700 mark.

According to the Health Ministry, 773 positive cases, 32 deaths have been registered in last 24 hours.

At least 402 people have recovered from the deadly coronavirus across the country. However, 149 deaths have also been reported from different states. The total number includes 70 foreign nationals and one person who has migrated. There are now 4,789 active cases of COVID-19, said the ministry.

According to Health Ministry data, Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 1018 active cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 690 cases, while Delhi has 576.

Kerala has 336 cases, Telangana reported 364 cases, Uttar Pradesh has 326, Rajasthan has 352 cases so far.

42 new cases in Rajasthan; total tally at 352

On Tuesday, Rajasthan reported 42 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 352 in the state, said health officials.

Bikaner reported three new cases which include a 13-year-old boy, the second is a 35-year-old female, and third is a 15-year-old male who are the family members of a positive case who was in contact with Tablighi Jamaat. Overall, Bikaner had 13 new cases on Tuesday.

Jaisalmer had six new cases reported in the evening, which were in the age group of 17 to 85. They are all positive Tablighi Jamati contacts. On Tuesday morning, the city registered seven cases — all of them tested positive after contact with a corona patient.

Jodhpur has nine new cases while Banswara has seven new cases, said Additional Chief Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.

Rajasthan has witnessed a steep rise in cases in the last few days. Till Saturday, the state had reported 200 cases which have touched 352 in just five days. The state crossed the 100-mark on April 1, said, health officials.

Delhi COVID-19 tally mounts to 576; 2 new deaths reported

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in the national capital went up to 576 on Tuesday with 51 new cases getting reported in the last 24 hours.

The city also reported two new deaths in the last 24 hours, with a total of nine people succumbing to the deadly virus.

According to the Delhi Health Department, among the total 576 cases, 333 cases are from the Nizamuddin Markaz, with four new cases in the last 24 hours getting reported from there.

“While 203 positive cases are with a foreign travel history and their contacts, 333 are from the Markaz,” the Health Department said.

Four hospitals with 3,500 beds in Delhi to give free COVID treatment

Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH) along with G.B. Pant Hospital (GBPH), Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (RGSSH) and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in the national capital have been asked to keep aside 3,500 beds for free COVID-19 treatment for the positive cases.

In a meeting, the Delhi Health Department also directed the private hospitals to be prepared for being declared the COVID-19 dedicated hospital, if the cases increase.

The meeting, convened by the Delhi Health Minister, was to review the preparations to fight coronavirus.

Private hospitals -- Sir Ganga Ram Kolmat Hospital, Indraprastha Apollo, Batra, Maharaja Agrasen, Fortis SS, Manipal and Venkateshwar -- were asked to be ready for being declared as COVID-dedicated hospitals.

Delhi establishes 111 shelter home for migrants; fewer occupancy

Since the lockdown was announced, the Delhi government has set up 111 shelter homes, specifically for the migrant workers across the city, with less than 5,000 migrants staying in the shelters.

According to an official, while these relief camps can accommodate 40,000 persons, not even 5,000 people have turned up.

“Since the lockdown was imposed, we were working on increasing the shelter homes so that maximum people can be accommodated. While we have arrangements for 40,000 people, only 4,788 migrants have been housed in these shelter homes,” the official told IANS.

Soon after the lockdown was imposed, the migrant labourers were initially migrating to their home states due to various reasons and have been focused as a target group for which special facilities have been provided.

Agra has 63 Covid-19 positive cases

With 13 more samples found coronavirus positive by the KGMU Lucknow laboratory, the number of COVID-19 cases here on Tuesday rose to 63.

Of the ten new cases, six had attended the Tablighi Markaz in Delhi. A senior doctor who was treating patients privately has also tested COVID-19 positive. The number of cases in the Agra division now stands at 75.

Two samples from Mathura were found positive on Tuesday. While one is a Tablighi who stayed at a mosque in Farah, the other is a woman from Agra, who had gone there for treatment at a private hospital.

The district authorities have stepped up the safety system and marked 25 areas as Red Zones, which the people must avoid.

118 COVID-19 cases, 37,713 under surveillance in J&K

The J&K administration has placed 37,713 people under surveillance. According to the daily media bulletin on COVID-19, here on Tuesday, of the 125 positive cases, 118 are active positive, four have recovered, and three died.

Also, 9,209 people are in isolation at the government-operated facilities, 567 in hospital quarantine, 118 in hospital isolation and 20,735 under home surveillance.

Besides, 7,084 people have completed the 28-day surveillance. Of the 1,900 samples sent for testing, 1,763 tested negative, and 12 reports are awaited.

The general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. It also urged people to stay active and follow workout plans to remain healthy.
