Coronavirus cases in Delhi climb to 2376; death toll rises to 50
New Delhi, Apr 23 () The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital on Thursday rose to 2,376, with 128 new cases and two fresh deaths being reported in a day, according to Delhi government authorities.
Of the total number of 50 fatalities reported till date, 27 of the deceased were aged 60 and above, making over 52 per cent of the total death cases, they said.
Thirteen of them were aged between 50-59 and 10 were aged less than 50 years, officials said.
By Wednesday night, the number of cases of the deadly virus in the city stood at 2,248, including 48 deaths.With two more fatalities, the death toll from COVID-19 in Delhi has risen to 50.
As many as 808 patients have recovered and the number of active cases are now 1,518 till date, according to the Delhi health department's latest bulletin on Thursday.
On Thursday, 84 patients have recovered. On Wednesday, as many as 115 patients had recovered while the figures for Tuesday and Monday stood at 180 and 141 respectively.
The number of containment zones in Delhi on Thursday increased to 92, with three new zones being added in various areas, in one day, the authorities said.
Daily house-to-house surveillance and sanitisation of areas under containment is being done regularly in these zones.
A population of approximately 3,23,000 people is covered under various Containment zones, officials said on Tuesday.
The health department also shared the age profile of the total 2,376 cases.
It said 1,548 are aged less than 50 years; 384 aged 50-59 and rest 443 aged 60 and above.
According to the department, out of the total 2,376 cases recorded so far, at least 422 are admitted at various hospitals like LNJP Hospital, RML Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and AIIMS Jhajjhar, adding 23 of them are in ICU and eight on ventilators.
Daily house-to-house surveillance and sanitisation of areas is being done in the containment zones. A population of 3,41,794 have been covered and 5619 samples have been collected so far from containment zones.
The total number of COVID-19 samples sent till date stands at 30,560, the health department said in the statement.
As many as 35,028 people who came in contact with affected persons, are under home quarantine till date and 25,509 have completed their 14-day quarantine, they said.
A state-level media cell under the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi government has been formed to deal with COVID-related issues, any misinformation being spread, lodging complaints, and putting up quests for medical intervention, it said.
An order has been issued to appoint a committee of nursing officers and paramedics at hospitals to monitor the quantity and quality and timing of food distribution. One administrative officer is also being posted in all designated COVID hospitals of Delhi government to sort out any issue on food and accommodation. KND ANBANB
