Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Mizoram lag behind other states in administering second dose of COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Indian government has been reportedly resisting calls for another nationwide lockdown due to several concerns.
  • The union government has so far supplied over 18 crore vaccination doses free of cost to the states and union territories.
  • India lost over 25,700 people in the first week of May 2021 alone to the pandemic’s second wave.
Amongst all the states in India — excluding Union Territories (UTs) — Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Mizoram report the lowest percentage in administering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

The percentage of the vaccinated population that has completed both the doses in these states stand at 20, 20 and 21 respectively.

India lost over 25,700 people in the first week of May 2021 alone to the pandemic’s second wave. The cases registered with the private and government run hospitals alone totalled to 2.7 million during this seven day period.

Indian government has been reportedly resisting calls for another nationwide lockdown due to several concerns. However, the state administrations have quickly responded by announcing localised restrictions and curfews.

The union government has so far supplied over 18 crore vaccination doses free of cost to the states and union territories. During the last 24 hours alone over 24 lakhs of Covid-19 doses have been administered.

The fact that Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Mizoram are trailing behind other states with their lowest percentage of vaccination insists that they must now act quickly to boost up the vaccination programme inside their territories to save more lives.
