In a bid to minimise the threat of the COVID-19 spread, the district administration of Gurugram has identified 24 containment zones in three of its blocks.

As many as 11 zones fall under the Sohna block while Gurugram has ten zones and Pataudi has three zones. Eight containment zones have been recognized, an official told on Thursday (April 23).

J S Punia, the civil surgeon of Gurugram, said that all containment zones have been sealed as per the Haryana Epidemic Act and adequate police force has been deployed at each of the zones.

As per the direction of the district magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the blocks will be in charge of the zones, said Punia. “We have started a fresh door to door thermal screening. It is simultaneously going on in old areas as well. Houses, parks and public places will also be sanitised under the de-containment zones. The health officials will take a review of every zone in five days,” he said.

What are the containment zones?

The Ministry of Health defines COVID-19 containment zones as the area where several positive cases of Coronavirus are found.

“The cluster containment strategy would be to contain the disease within a defined geographic area by detecting cases in the nascent stage, breaking the chain of transmission and preventing its spread to new areas. This would include geographic quarantine, social distancing measures, enhanced active surveillance, testing all suspected cases, isolation of cases, quarantine of contacts and risk communication to create awareness among the public on preventive public health measures,” said the Ministry of Health.
