  • The two main banking holidays in May for banks are Buddha Purnima on May 7 and Eid on May 7.
  • In Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, only May 1 will be a holiday for banks.
  • Here’s a list of banking holidays in India and how they are spread across the different states and union territories (UTs)
Banks across the country observe certain holidays, but they are not uniform across the country. The major holidays for banks in the month of May are May Day, Buddha Purnima and Eid — on May 1, May 7 and May 25, respectively.

However, some states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur and others don’t have a day off on Buddha Purnima.

Though Eid is a national holiday, banks in Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, won’t be taking the day off. In fact, in those two union territories (UTs), only May 1 — May Day — will be a banking holiday.

Some states will be celebrating regional holidays like region-specific holidays like in West Bengal on May 8 on the occasion of the Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary.

Here’s a full list of the banking holidays in May for each state and UT in India:
