From Haryana, Delhi to Maharashtra and Karnataka — here’s how Bharat Bandh is affecting the common life in India

While the ruling Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government supports the farmers’ peaceful protests against three contentious laws, the Delhi Police said strict legal action would be taken against the protesters who would try to shut the shops or disrupt the traffic movement forcefully.The Delhi Police have also issued a traffic advisory for the smooth movement of vehicles and commuters. The Delhi traffic police said the Singhu, Auchandi, Piao Maniyari, Mangesh, Tikri, Jharoda, and Dhansa borders are closed. National Highway-44 has also been closed on both sides. Those travelling are suggested to take alternative routes via Lampur, Safiabad, and Saboli borders. Traffic has also been diverted from Mukarba and GTK road. Available open borders to Haryana are Daurala, Kapashera, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan, Bajghera, Palam Vihar, and Dundahera.With a special focus on the districts like Sirsa, Fatehabad, Jind, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar and sensitive Delhi-Haryana border on Palwal, Jhajjar and Sonipat district the Haryana government has beefed up security to maintain the law and order situation. Haryana Police has also issued a travel advisory stating that people may face traffic blockages on various roads and highways of the state.“Almost all the districts in the state except Nuh and Narnaul are likely to be impacted by big or small road jams. In addition, there may also be disruptions on various toll plazas in the state,” the police said. “The main national highways Delhi-Ambala (NH-44), Delhi-Hisar (NH-9), Delhi-Palwal (NH-19) and Delhi to Rewari (NH-48) may also see some traffic disruptions for a short time. The peak time of impact is expected to be between 12 pm to 3 pm,” the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk said.The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena government is backing the nationwide farmers' protest today. Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) in Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Dhule, Pune and Solapur are closed during the bandh.However, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses are plying as scheduled during the Bharat Bandh, a senior official of the state-run undertaking said. Transportation of essential commodities like milk, vegetables and fruits have been excluded from the bandh.Members of a farmers’ organisation early morning today also staged a ‘rail roko’ in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district as part of the Bharat Bandh. The police detained Sanghatana leader Ravikant Tupkar and his supporters over the incident after removing them from the rail tracks.The Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani had earlier cleared his stance that the state is not supporting Bharat Bandh, and if anyone tries to close shops and other establishments forcefully then strict action will be taken against them.Protesters in Gujarat have blocked three highways by placing burning tyres on roads on Tuesday morning, affecting vehicular traffic for some time. A highway connecting Ahmedabad to Viramgam was blocked near Sanand by protesters from the Congress party who placed burning tyres on roads, causing a traffic jam. Another group of protesters blocked a national highway in Vadodara.The police have detained the protesters in Ahmedabad and brought the situation under control. Tens and thousands of farmers in Karnataka will join the nationwide protest today. Few schools have also decided not to conduct online classes in order to extend their support to farmers’.The Bengaluru Police has also beefed up security with as many as 15,000 policemen and 50 platoons of state reserve police force to maintain law and order in the city. The Bengaluru traffic police announced that traffic would be diverted on key routes in the Central Business District (CBD). Various street vendors’ organisations decided to remain shut today to support the farmers while restaurants and hotel business will run as usual. The auto, cab and taxi unions have only extended moral support to the bandh call and will continue to ply as usual. The Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has directed the police administration to maintain law and order in the state during the protest. The farmers’ organisations, traders and transporters in Rajasthan have decided to shut 247 ‘mandis’ in the state. The Jaipur-Delhi route, which is the busiest in Rajasthan, will also be affected by the nationwide protest.The ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh has extended its support to the Bharat bandh called by farmers’ unions against the three new farm laws enacted by the Centre and has appealed to people to express solidarity with cultivators.Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) has also agreed to support the shutdown and to keep commercial establishments and shops shut. However, emergency services like hospitals, ambulances, fire brigade and medicine shops have been exempted from the bandh. The Road transport organisations also have extended support to the bandh, and therefore the transport is likely to be affected in the state.
