The total number of COVID-19 patients has gone up to 1,185 in Assam from 1,057 on Friday, of which 1,015 are active cases, Sarma said in a tweet.

"Alert ~ 85 new cases of #COVID19+. 26 Kokrajhar & Chirang, 20 Hailakandi, 13 Kamrup, 13 Dibrugarh, 9 Jorhat, 2 Golaghat, 2 Cachar," he said.

Earlier during the day, Sarma had said samples of 43 people had tested positive.

In a separate tweet, he said 38 patients have recovered from the disease and discharged from hospitals after their samples tested negative twice.

Four patients have died in the state so far due to the contagion, while 163 were cured, Sarma said.

Three patients have migrated to other states.

On Friday, Assam had crossed the 1,000-mark with a single-day highest tally of 177 new infections, including six air travellers.

Sarma also said a CSIR-NEIST COVID-19 testing laboratory will be functional from now in Jorhat district of Upper Assam.

The state has seen a spurt in coronavirus cases after inter-state movement was allowed during the lockdown period.
