Spearheading AAP’s landslide victory in the February 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the party’s founder and national convener Arvind Kejriwal proudly wins the chance of sitting on the Delhi National Capital Territory’s throne for the third consecutive time. The AAP’s legislative leader will take oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi in a grand ceremony that will take place in the Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
In the recently concluded Delhi Assembly Elections, AAP won 62 out of the total 70 seats. The vote share of the AAP was 53.57. The BJP won from the remaining 8 seats with the INC left without a single seat. AAP’s momentous victory follows a serious setback suffered by the party during the last Lok Sabha elections in May 2019 when the party could not get a single seat in the capital territory as BJP won all the 7 Lok Sabha seats.
The oath taking ceremony
Manish Sisodia will be sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister along with five other ministers, who will be taking the oath of office in the ceremony on Sunday.
The ceremony in which Kejriwal will take oath as the Delhi Chief Minister will be a Delhi-specific event and the party has said no politicians will be invited to take part in the program. AAP’s Delhi unit convener said, "No chief minister or political leader from other states will be invited for the ceremony that is going to be specific to Delhi.” The special invitees to the ceremony include all 7 Delhi MPs, newly elected 8 BJP MLAs. However, Arvind Kejriwal has sent a special invite to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grace the occasion.
The venue
The oath taking ceremony will take place in Ramlila Maidan, the same grounds from where Kejriwal championed a massive anti-corruption movement along with Anna Hazare in 2011.
The ceremony will be open to the general public and in the same manner as done in 2015, Arvind Kejriwal has extended an open invitation to all the residents of the national capital. A recent tweet by Arvind Kejriwal read, "Residents of Delhi, your son will take oath as the Chief Minister for the third time. I want you to come along with all your family members to Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, at 10 am".
