Arvind Kejriwal says Delhi is four steps ahead of Coronavirus, can't have permanent lockdown

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a video conference today said that Delhi is fully prepared to deal with Coronavirus and that the national capital was four steps ahead of the deadly disease. He added that Delhi cannot be in a permanent lockdown.

“It is a matter of concern but it is nothing to be scared of. I assure you that your government is four steps ahead of coronavirus" said Arvind Kejriwal. "Delhi is witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases, we accept it. But there is nothing to worry about, I assure you that we are fully prepared. We cannot be in a permanent lockdown," he added.

The Chief Minister said that while 8,500 new cases were reported in Delhi over the past 15 days, only 500 people were admitted to
hospitals. He claimed that most people are getting cured at home. At present, Delhi has 17,386 Coronavirus cases and 398 people have succumbed to the disease.

The Delhi government will launch an app on Monday that will allow users to check the availability of Coronavirus dedicated beds and ventilators in hospitals. This will allow patients to get information about the availability of beds and ventilators across various hospitals easily.

Out of the 17,386 confirmed cases, around 2,100 patients are in hospitals and the remaining patients are recovering at home. The Chief Minister said that 6,500 beds are ready in Delhi and another 9,500 beds will be added by next week. Private hospitals have been asked to reserve 20% of their beds for Coronavirus patients.

“Most of the people are recovering, and they are recovering at home. There is no need to panic,” said Kejriwal. The Delhi government has come out with detailed guidelines on home isolation in newspapers.
