India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on August 9, said that Indian government is introducing an import embargo on 101 items beyong timelines to boost indigenisation of defense production.

"This decision will offer a great opportunity to the Indian defence industry to manufacture the items in the negative list by using their own design and development capabilities or adopting the technologies designed & developed by DRDO to meet the requirements of the Armed Forces," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

The list of items include a range of transport aircraft, artillery guns, combat helicopters, radar systems, simulators, assault rifles, warships etc.
