Ahmedabad crosses 15,000-mark with 343 new COVID-19 cases
Ahmedabad, Jun 10 () The coronavirus count in Ahmedabad rose to 15,305 after 343 new cases were reported on Wednesday, while 26 more patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.
With the death of 26 more patients, the toll in the district, the worst-hit by COVID-19 in Gujarat, increased to 1,092, it said.
A total of 266 patients were discharged from hospitals in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, the department said.
Ahmedabad reported 343 out of the total 510 COVID-19 cases recorded in the state on Wednesday, and 26 of the 34 fatalities.
According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, there are 3,049 active cases in the city, which is 21 per cent of the total 14,527 COVID-19 cases recorded till Wednesday afternoon in civic limits.
Around 72 per cent of total patients have recovered, while the death rate is 7.2 per cent, it said.
The city's north zone remains the worst affected with 783, or 25.7 per cent, of the total active cases reported from there, followed by the west zone with 557, or 18.3 per cent, of the active cases.
"Super spreaders" account for 16.3 per cent of active cases in Ahmedabad city at 497, the AMC said.
Rural Ahmedabad reported 22 new cases on Wednesday, taking the total number of COVID-19 infections to 460.
With two more deaths reported from rural parts of the district, the toll has risen to 30.
