After new highs, Maha adds 5,368 COVID-19 cases; 204 die

Mumbai, Jul 6 () Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,11,987 on Monday with the addition of 5,368 fresh cases, while 204 more patients died, 39 of them in Mumbai, the state health department said.

After registering new single-day highs in the last few days (more than 6,500), the count of fresh cases in the state recorded a significant drop with 5,368 infections being reported since Sunday.

With the new 204 deaths, the state's fatality count rose to 9,206, the department said.

A total of 3,522 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 1,15,262, it said.

Of the total number of 204 deaths reported during the day, 39 were from Mumbai alone, while 28 from neighbouring Navi Mumbai.

In the limits of municipal corporations of Vasai- Virar, Nashik and Pune 13 deaths each were reported during the day, while Jalgaon district (barring area governed by Jalgaon Municipal Corporation) reported 12 fatalities, it said.

In Thane Municipal Corporations jurisdiction, 10 new deaths were reported, the department said.

Out of the total 5,368 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Mumbai city, accounted for the highest 3,369 cases, taking its total to 1,49,138 and the death toll to 6,515.

Mumbai alone reported new 1,200 cases, which pushed its count to 85,724. The financial capitals death toll stood at 4,938.

The Pune city reported 520, Kalyan-Dombivali 454, Thane 301, Vasai-Virar 283, Pimpri-Chinchwad 257, Nashik 218 and Aurangabad 83 new cases.

The recovery rate in the state is 54.37 per cent, while the fatality rate is 4.26 per cent, the department said.

Currently, 6,15,265 people are in home quarantine and 46,355 in institutional quarantine.

There are 87,681 active cases in the state at present.

So far, 11,35,447 people have been tested across the state, it said.
