976 detained in Manipur on Wednesday for violating lockdown; Rs 1.25 lakh fine imposed

Imphal, Apr 30 () A total of 976 persons weredetained in Manipur on Wednesday for violating lockdown andnot wearing masks in public places and 866 vehicles seized inthis connection, police said.

All the detained persons were produced before courtsand a total fine of Rs 1.25 lakh was imposed on them, astatement issued by Additional Director General of Police LKailun said.

Thoubal district topped the chart with 263 detentions,it said.

Meanwhile, the Thoubal police has launched a 'no mask,no fuel' campaign at petrol pumps in the district.

The campaign is part of the effort of the police toraise awareness on the need to wear masks, an officer said. CORACD ACD
