Maharashtra is not going into lockdown just yet, but the state government has brought back the 50% restriction for offices, hotels, cinema halls, and more.

Maharashtra has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases over the last few days, forcing Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to issue a warning that stringent measures would be undertaken if people failed to cooperate.

Now, bringing back the 50% restriction could be seen as a move to control the spread of COVID-19 without bringing normal life to a screeching halt.

Here are the full details of the COVID-19 restrictions in Maharashtra

  • Offices, hotels, cinema halls to operate only at 50% capacity.
  • Offices of health and other essential services allowed to operate at normal capacity.
  • Work from home is encouraged.
  • Shopping malls to implement stringent COVID protocols.
  • All social, religious, political and cultural gatherings are banned.
  • Weddings to have a maximum of 50 people and funerals to have maximum of 20 people.
Apart from the above restrictions, the Maharashtra government order also specifies that wearing masks shall be strictly enforced. Apart from this, temperature checks are also required. The order also says adequate hand sanitizers need to be kept at convenient locations.

Any establishment violating the provisions of this order will be liable to be closed down for a specific period. Penalties will also be attracted as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Home isolation restrictions

Apart from restrictions in public spaces, the Maharashtra government order also includes provisions for home isolation.

According to the order, a board shall be put up for 14 days at the home of the COVID-19 patient. A home quarantine stamp shall also be affixed on the said patient.

Members of the patient’s family are advised to restrict their movements outside to the extent possible. Any violation shall lead to the patient being transferred to the COVID Care Center designated by the local authority.
