Aizawl, Jun 15 () Five women have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, raising the state's tally to 117, a Health Department official said on Monday.

All new patients, who had recently returned to the state from Delhi, are from Mamit district, he said.

"A total of 682 samples were tested at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Sunday and five of them were found positive," the official said.

The fresh patients are aged between 21 and 23 years and asymptomatic, he said.

Mizoram has now 116 active cases, the official said, adding that 59 patients are females and 57 males.

The first patient in the state, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24, recovered from the disease in early May.

Meanwhile, Aizawl Hospital and Research Centre (AH&RC), which was temporarily shut down on Saturday after a patient was diagnosed with the coronavirus-infection, has resumed functioning.

"The hospital has been opened from Monday as 29 staffers, who came in contact with the patient, have tested negative for the virus," its managing director Dr Lalrinawma Hnamte said. COR BDC BDC
