Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also known as DMRC launched on May 3, 1995 is a center state public sector company. The company operates three rail projects in India namely Delhi metro, monorail and high speed rail projects in the country. Delhi metro, the third largest metro rail system in India following Kolkata Metro and Chennai MTRS. Delhi Metro is a fast transit system that serves Delhi and the other satellite cities namely Noida, Bahadurgarh, Gurgaon, Ballabhgarh, Faridabad and Ghaziabad all of them located in the NCTY of Delhi. The Delhi metro system consists of regular lines serving 250 stations. The trains are coded in eight colors.
In partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Metro operates a course called Post Graduate Diploma In Metro Technology. In 2011, DMRC became the first ever rail based transit system on the earth to get the carbon credits given by the United Nations.
Delhi Metro Card is a convenient way of transiting in the Metro Rails without having to buy tickets every time while boarding the trains. DMRC has also launched an online recharge facility besides the existing ticket reader cum add value machine for the travelers to check their metro card balance through online as well as offline methods.
Delhi Metro has also partnered with Paytm to recharge the metro card. This can be done directly through the Paytm digital wallet. These arrangements have ruled out the need to wait at the long queues during busy hours to buy the tickets. Paytm also provides an easy way to check your Delhi Metro Card balance online and to do this, you will have to input your 12 digits smart card number.

The three ways to check your Delhi Metro Card balance online and offline include the following:
- Ticket Reader Cum Add Value Machine
- Automatic Vending Machine (AVM)
- Through Paytm
To check the Delhi Metro Balance online, login to the Paytm official website from your PC or laptop or tablet or smartphone. Tap on the Metro option and choose the Delhi Metro option.
Enter the 12 digit number of your smartcard and click on ‘Check Balance’.

In the next screen you will see your Delhi Metro Card Balance. To do this, you need to expand the consumer details tab.The same steps given above work for the Metros of Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai Metro Cards.
Recharging your metro card
There are several ways to recharge your Delhi Metro Card. This can be done on the portals www.delhimetrorail.com and www.dmrcsmartcard.com
Once you top up the card online, you will have to physically validate the recharge by using the Ticket Reader Cum Add Value Machines installed in the 13 Delhi Metro Stations.
