- Congress has given adjournment motion notice in the Parliament, demanding an official statement over the Kashmir issue.
- Former chief ministers of Kashmir — Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti — have been placed under house arrest.
- Internet and mobile services have also been suspended in several areas the government imposed section 144 from midnight.
Nazir Ahmad of People’s Democratic Party has issued a zero hour notice in the Parliament.
Meanwhile, the issue is also being addressed in upper house where Congress MPs — Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni, and Bhubaneswar Kalita have extended Adjournment Motion notice over Kashmir issue.
This adjournment motion is available to draw the attention of the government and criticise its decision in an urgent matter for which a motion or resolution, with notice, would be too late, according to PRS Legislative.
If the adjournment motion is accepted, the House adjourns after voting. The adoption of an adjournment motion is seen as a strong disagreement with government policy, although there is no compulsion on the government to resign.

The story so farOn Friday (August 2) evening, the Indian government asked thousands of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to leave Kashmir immediately citing a terror threat. Since then, the state has been in confusion and chaos.
Making matters worse is a series of speculation by both news outfits as well as on social media that has led to people fearing the worst and hoarding food and necessities.
The silence from the government in New Delhi, while building up troops in the valley, in the face of rampant speculation has added to the unease, particularly in the Kashmir valley, where Internet and mobile services have also been suspended in several areas as the government imposed section 144 from midnight on Monday.
