HRD minister Smriti Irani has asked IITs to teach Sanskrit language so that study of science and technology can be facilitated as reflected in its literature.

A panel was set up, chaired by former CEC N Gopalaswami, which has submitted its report in the Lok Sabha, saying that IITs may facilitate study of science and technology as reflected in Sanskrit literature along with inter-disciplinary study of Sanskrit and modern subjects, as per HRD Minister Smriti Irani.

"Accordingly, IITs have been requested to teach Sanskrit language especially with reference to study of works which contain scientific knowledge," Irani said.
