If you thought IPL was supreme Cricket entertainment, served with a pinch of Bollywood, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne are planning to launch an all stars Twenty20 Cricket league. The tournament would feature cricketing icons and will be played in cities around the globe. The grand launch is set for late 2016.
The likes of Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist , Andrew Flintoff and Jacques Kallis have been reportedly approached with hefty paychecks of $25,000 a match. Several of these players have already stretched their careers in Twenty20 after retiring from international cricket.
The initial plan is to hire 28 players to play 15 matches for the next three and a half years. The first few matches would be played in three US cities this September.
Similar formats with legendary figures have worked well in tennis and golf, thanks to the obvious fan following and nostalgia, but nothing of the sort has ever been tried in cricket. Whether this will work out, only time would tell.
