Starting June 5, there will be four foreign guest stars on McDonald's US menu: the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger from Spain, cheesy bacon fries from Australia, the Stroopwafel McFlurry from the Netherlands, and the tomato-mozzarella chicken sandwich from Canada.
I sampled all four of these items and was blown away by them all. Each item has something new and exciting to offer American customers, and I'm thrilled that McDonald's international offerings have finally started to make their way to the US.
However, the item that stood out to me the most was Spain's Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger.

The Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger, or GMBB, is a truly gorgeous, greasy beast.
My fingers were dripping with beef fat after the first bite, but it was so worth it. The beef is juicy, juicy, juicy. There's gouda cheese on top and gouda cheese on the bottom. And it tastes like real gouda. The bun is fluffy and toasted, and it thankfully soaks up most of the burger's juices.
The bacon is the same applewood-smoked variety that is in the rest of McDonald's bacon burger offerings. On its own, it's nothing special. However, putting bacon and gouda together on a beef burger was possibly one of the best flavor choices McDonald's has made, period.
There are also onion slivers on this burger, but they don't make much of a difference flavor-wise. What really punches up the flavor is the McBacon sauce, which is a smoky, peppery, tangy, mayo-based sauce that glues all the pieces of the puzzle together.
You wouldn't find the GMBB in La Boqueria in Barcelona, but it definitely tastes better than any US McDonald's burger I've had.
