Helix has successfully made a name for itself in a sea of other bed-in-a-box mattress companies. Though the waters keep growing more crowded as online mattress shopping continues to rise in popularity, this company continues to set itself apart with options for every type of sleeper. Special attention is paid to both the construction and design, resulting in comfort that doesn't fade and quality you can count on.
There are currently two mattress lines offered - the standard Helix and Helix Luxe - and six different mattress models in each line that ranges from soft to firm. In addition, there are three specialty models, which offer options for plus-size sleepers and dual comfort designs for couples who have completely different sleeping needs. If you're looking for the perfect mattress, Helix is worth considering thanks to all the choices it offers.
I focus on the Luxe line for this review, specifically the Helix Luxe Dusk mattress.

Choosing a mattress
While all these options may seem overwhelming at first, a handy Sleep Quiz is available to help find your perfect match. I liked that this quiz takes partners into consideration, so you can find a mattress that will suit both of your needs.
When I took the sleep quiz to determine the mattress I'd test, my result was the Helix Luxe Dusk Mattress, a medium-firm mattress designed with back and stomach sleepers in mind, but also comfortable enough for side sleepers to enjoy as well.
I decided to trust the results and wasn't disappointed. In fact, this has been my personal favorite of all the mattresses I've tested. Comfort played a big part in this verdict, but I also appreciated the thought that went into the overall design of this mattress as well as the wide range of options I had to choose from.
As the name implies, the Luxe line has high-end, luxury mattresses that come with a matching price tag; prices start at $995 for a twin. However, after testing this mattress, I can confidently say that if you have the means, this is a worthwhile investment in return for the high-quality sleep you'll receive.
There are also financing options available, and Helix often runs discounts and sales so you don't necessarily have to pay full price.
Delivery and first impressions
This is a true bed-in-a-box so there's no white glove delivery here. However, the box that was delivered to our door was especially manageable thanks to how compressed the mattress was. Truthfully, I thought we'd been sent the wrong size at first because of how small the box was, but it turns out our queen-sized mattress was folded in half and then rolled - which made it much easier to get up the stairs to our bedroom.
The mattress was easy to remove from its box, and when we unrolled and cut the vacuum seal wrapping off, it immediately began to expand.
As with most mattresses that contain foam, there is a slight chemical smell at first, but this began to dissipate within the recommended 24 to 48 hours to off-gas the mattress and allow it to come to its full size. I found that the smell took a little longer than 48 hours to disappear, but there was no trace of it after a week of use.
I immediately appreciated that the smooth top was free of any uncomfortable tufts or indents and the handles attached to the sides made it much easier to move the mattress on top of our bed frame.
Construction
The Helix Luxe Dusk is a hybrid mattress comprised of six different layers. The foundational layer of DuraDense support foam is topped by pocketed coils that are split into "zoned" sections to provide additional support under the back and hips. On top of this are three additional layers of foam: transition foam so none of the coils are felt, Helix Dynamic Foam designed to conform to your body, and gel memory foam that aids in pressure relief. The crowning layer is the smooth pillow top for additional comfort. All these layers come together to make a mattress that's 14-inches thick.
This mattress offers great edge support thanks to the reinforced perimeter coils, so every inch of the surface area can be used. The combination of coils and memory foam also passed the motion transfer test with flying colors. When my partner rolled over during the night, there was barely any movement on my side of the bed, which I very much appreciated as a light sleeper.
If you tend to sleep warm, you'll also appreciate the cooling mattress cover designed to absorb and release heat from the body so you don't overheat during the night. While testing, I never had any issues with feeling overheated, even while sharing the bed with my partner and our cat who insists on curling up as close as possible to us.
Who it's for
The Helix Luxe Dusk is a medium-firm mattress crafted with back and stomach sleepers in mind, but also suitable for side sleepers who prefer a firmer feel.
As a stomach sleeper, I liked that it was firm enough to keep me from feeling "stuck" in the mattress, but it also has a nice amount of responsiveness so it didn't feel like sleeping on a board either. I especially liked the combination of gel memory foam and the smooth pillow top which provides an extra layer of comfort without feeling overly "plush." For my partner and I, it was the perfect in-between mattress.
If you prefer the feeling of sinking into your mattress and having it hug your body, or you're a side sleeper who prefers a softer feeling mattress, the Sunset or the Moonlight Helix Luxe models may be more ideal. It's worth noting that, according to the Helix website, all the mattress models are compatible with both a traditional platform bed frame as well as the Helix adjustable base.
Final thoughts
The Helix Luxe Dusk is a worthwhile investment if comfort is your priority - and it should be. With higher-end mattresses, I've found that you truly get what you pay for - high-quality sleep. This mattress is no exception.
If you're hesitant to commit right away, Helix offers a 100-night sleep trial so you can be sure you've found the perfect mattress. If you do find this isn't the mattress for you, you can return it for a full refund. Every Luxe mattress comes with a 15-year warranty for extra peace of mind.
These mattresses are also made in the U.S. and are OEKO-Tex® Certified, which means they're free of harmful chemicals and substances so you can rest easy knowing you're sleeping on safe materials.
The Helix Luxe Dusk is available in a full range of sizes including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king and California King.
You can buy the Helix Luxe Dusk for $995 (Twin) to $2,145 (King)
