  • Casper recently released a $125 Down Pillow with an airy yet supportive design.
  • I've been sleeping on it, and I'm impressed - it's structured, fluffy, and adapts to different sleeping positions throughout the night.
  • If you're interested in trying it for yourself, you've got the protection of a 100-night sleep trial to make sure you love it before committing.

Once an up-and-coming David, mattress startup Casper has so dominated the New York City subway car ads and the direct-to-consumer mattress space that it has started to feel like Goliath. Unconsciously, I had shifted my attention to the smaller, the younger, and the less traveled (as a commerce reporter, I am well aware that there are always plenty of worthy new companies to discover).

But, Casper recently released a $125 down pillow, and I took home the one they sent to our office to test. I was already a fan of other feather down pillows listed at a similar price point, and Casper's had the ease of being machine washable, including a 100-night sleep trial, and offering free shipping and returns.

If you're always itching for something undiscovered, I have bad news for you. The Casper Down Pillow is very good.

It's fluffy and airy while simultaneously feeling supportive and structured. I've slept on my side, stomach, and back, and was never disappointed - no weak thin spots or the sides ballooning up around my face. Like other down pillows I use and love, the Casper iteration has a firm internal core and softer external chambers so the center is dense enough for neck support and the outer edges are light and airy enough to adapt to the slope of your neck in any position.

In terms of the materials, the outer shell is a breathable cotton that stays cool throughout the night, and the down is certified by the Responsible Down Standard. Over the nights that I've had it, I've found myself regularly gravitating toward this pillow over any of my others. You may have to occasionally fluff it like any other down pillow, but it responds well.

The bottom line

Casper is responsible for one of the best mattresses on the internet, good sheets, and a good duvet cover. It also makes a great down pillow.

If you're interested in picking one up for yourself, you can shop the Standard for $125 and the King for $165. And, thanks to the 100-night sleep trial, you can make sure you're really in love with it before committing.
