- After not running in 2016, Biden is openly considering a run in 2020.
In a Wednesday interview with CBS News' Jeff Glor, President Donald Trump said he would like to face off against former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
"I dream about Biden," Trump said. "That's a dream. Look, Joe Biden ran three times. He never got more than 1% and President Obama took him out of the garbage heap, and everybody was shocked that he did. I'd love to have it be Biden."
Later, Trump continued by saying that Biden "never by himself could never do anything."
Biden ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, but lost to the then-Sen. Obama in the party's primary. He also ran for the presidency in 1988, which also ended during the primary process. Despite calls to throw his hat in the ring in 2016, the former vice president decided not to challenge Hillary Clinton for the party's nomination.
Biden has been openly mulling another run for the White House in 2020 and says he will decide by the end of the year.
The two men, both who are in their 70s, have not minced words in expressing their personal distaste for each other.
Earlier this year, Biden said at an anti-sexual assault rally that he would have "beat the hell" out of Trump if they went to school together.
Biden made the comment in reference to the "Access Hollywood" tape released prior to the 2016 presidential election, which showed Trump making a series of lewd and crude comments about women.
"A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, 'I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,'" Biden said. "They asked me if I'd like to debate this gentleman, and I said 'no.' I said, 'If we were in high school, I'd take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him."
Trump fired back at Biden, suggesting that "Crazy Joe Biden" would "go down fast and hard" in a fight against him.
"Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy," Trump tweeted. "Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn't know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don't threaten people Joe!"
