To woo customers this festive season, Chinese smartphone company OnePlus has come up with a new strategy. It is offering OnePlus One phones for free in Bengaluru if the phone did not reach customers within one-hour of placing orders.
This move has been confirmed by Vikas Agarwal, General Manager - India, OnePlus. He asked: "Can you ever imagine receiving a smartphone in about the same time as you order a pizza?”
“At OnePlus, we think it's possible. Therefore, we are daring ourselves this time to deliver the original flagship - The OnePlus One - to our fans in Bengaluru who wish to own the phone, within the guaranteed 60 minutes or give it away for free," he said.
To make the 60 minutes delivery commitment possible, the Chinese company has tied up with Blowhorn, a Bengaluru based marketplace focussed on intra-city logistics marketplace startup.
The countdown to the 60 minutes delivery will begin once the order is accepted by Blowhorn, the company said in a statement.
The promotion will run for three days - October 8, 9 and 10.
How will you go about it? Buyers have to download the Blowhorn mobile application from Google Play Store, place an order through the app and upon its acceptance, the brand new OnePlus One handset will be delivered at their doorstep within 60 minutes. This project is being rolled out in Bengaluru as a pilot, and will soon be taken to other cities.
Commenting about the development, Mithun Srivatsa from Blowhorn said: "The novelty of this promotion is that we being their delivery partner, have zero margin for delays or errors in delivery of the OnePlus One handsets."
India is a big focus market for OnePlus. It contributed about 7% of OnePlus' overall sales in 2014, within just one month of operations. In the quarter to March, over 40% of global sales came from India without any major marketing or promotional activities, Agarwal had told ET after the launch of OnePlus Two, the company's second flagship device launched in June.
OnePlus is also planning to launch a budget level smartphone this quarter, and launch its own online selling platform next year.
