I traveled to China for a special visit to the Xiaomi headquarter where all the action happens for the Chinese smartphone maker, I was to visit the company’s main office in Beijing on the 23rd of January, Monday. I had just landed in Beijing on Sunday and the moment I switched on my phone I was bombarded with multiple messages from the communication person who was to take me around the Xiaomi headquarter she wanted to ask if the meeting can be moved for the next day i.e Tuesday saying that there is an important meeting that was called on suddenly and she had to attend it, I said ok. Few hours later I knew what the important meeting was all about, Hugo Barra moving on from Xiaomi after 3.5 years. I was now even more eager for the Mi headquarter visit. So the next day I reached there before time and as soon as I met the communication rep I asked her if I could get 5minutes with Barra, I guess it was exactly what she had expected i would ask, once I was certain there is no chance of meeting the man who played a major role in building the brand from early days - a day after he announced his exit from the company, I solemnly went on to do what I had gone there to do, tour Xiaomi’s main office. And here’s how it looks, for a fairly new company that started in 2010, the Xiaomi office is extremely impressive with many interesting spaces for the employees to work as well as play.
