Hurricane Irma is currently barreling toward Florida, and is expected to make landfall there early Sunday morning. The storm's strong winds, however, could start hitting the state on Saturday, and power outages are a major risk -even in areas that aren't under mandatory evacuation orders.
Irma's center narrowly missed hitting Puerto Rico, but 1 million people on the island lost power nonetheless. The Miami Herald reported that parts of the island could be without power for up to four to six months.
While it's best to stock up on non-perishable items when preparing for a hurricane, people in affected areas are bound to have food in their refrigerators as well.
