Google Chrome is considered one of the best web browsers out there for numerous reasons. It's known for its fast performance, stability and efficiency, as well as its top-notch security. And if Gmail is your email provider of choice, Google Chrome makes the transition from checking your email to surfing the web seamless.

Another benefit of Google Chrome? If you have it on your computer, tablet, and phone, it will sync your bookmarks and browsing history across all three devices. This means that if you opened a recipe on your laptop but forgot to save it before going to the grocery store, you can just open Google Chrome on your cell phone and it will be there in your history.

Unlike Chromebooks and Android phones - which use a Google operating system and feature Google Chrome as a default browser - most other devices don't come equipped with Google Chrome. Therefore, you have to download and install it yourself. Here's how to get started on both a computer and an iPhone.

How to download and install Google Chrome on your computer

1. Visit Google.com/Chrome.

4. After clicking this, you'll be directed to a page that says "Thank you for downloading Chrome!" If you have the setting enabled on your current browser, the Chrome file will download automatically. Otherwise, it will ask you where you'd like to save it.

5. Double click on the file once it's done downloading. If you're installing on a Mac, you'll be prompted with the below box. (During this step, you'll likely also see a gray box with the Google Chrome logo on your desktop.) If you're installing on a PC, Chrome will install and most likely add its icon to your desktop.

6. Double click on the colorful Google Chrome icon.

7. You might be prompted with a box that says, "'Google Chrome' is an application that is downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" Click "Open."

How to download and install Google Chrome on an iPhone

3. Because the app is free, it will likely start downloading without you needing to enter your password. (On some devices, you will be required to enter a password or verify your Touch ID.)

4. Once it's done downloading, the rounded box or cloud symbol will turn into a box that says "Open."

5. Tap "Open," and you'll be directed to a page that says, "Welcome to Chrome."

6. Tap "Accept & Continue."
