Here's how to delete gmail account

If you have decided to do it for any reason, it is possible to delete your Gmail account and all the messages in it. Even when you delete your Gmail account, you can still keep your Google account and YouTube account.

Deleting your Gmail account permanently is not a hard thing to do. The process is still lengthy and you will have to click many things a lot of times. You will also have to input your passwords a lot of times when prompted. Yet, Google has made deleting a Gmail account and deleting all the mails in it a straightforward and easy task.

How to delete your Gmail account?

Here is a step by step process of deleting your Gmail account and all the mails in your account.

  • Go to ‘Account Settings’.
  • Click on ‘Data and Personalization’.
  • You will see a page with a list. Scroll down and click on ‘Download, delete or make a plan for your data’.
  • Click on ‘Delete a service on your account’.
  • On the next page, click on ‘Delete a service’.
  • You will be asked to sign into your account.
  • The next page will display a list of options. Here you will be asked to choose the service that you wish to delete. If you want to delete your Gmail account, click on the trash can icon you will find next to Gmail.
  • Input an alternative email address that is not connected to the Gmail account you wish to delete. Ensure you have entered the email address that you can access. This is necessary to complete the deleting process.
  • Click on ‘Send verification email’.
  • You will have received a mail in your alternative email address with the subject line ‘Security alert for your linked Google Account’ or ‘Gmail Deletion Confirmation’.
  • Follow the deletion link you will find in the message.
  • You might be asked to long into your Gmail account you are looking forward to delete.
  • Under the title ‘Confirm Gmail Deletion’, select ‘Yes, I want to delete ‘example@gmail.com’ permanently from my Google account.
  • Click on ‘Delete Gmail’. Think well before you complete this step. This process cannot be reversed. Once you click on this, all your messages and your Gmail account is gone forever.
  • Click on ‘Done’.
  • You have permanently deleted your Gmail account now.
  • What happens when you have deleted your Gmail account?
  • When you have deleted your Gmail account, all the mails in your Gmail account will be deleted permanently. You will never be able to access them anymore.
  • If you have downloaded a copy of all your emails in your account with the help of Google Takeout or any other email program, you will be able to use the messages as you will want.
What will happen if any one sends mails to my deleted Gmail account?

If anyone send mails to the Gmail account that you have deleted, the sender will get a ‘delivery failure’ message. Hence if you had some persons you highly care about in your old Gmail account, you might inform them about the new or alternative email address.
