How to change your Google background for a more enjoyable user experience
- You can change the background on your Google account to make your user experience more enjoyable and help differentiate one account from another on a shared computer.
- Select from thousands of themes that come with stunning background images that will enhance your time on Google.
- You have to use a Google Chrome browser in order to enjoy a customized Google background; browsers like Safari and Firefox don't allow the use of different backgrounds.
The standard Google background isn't all that inspiring. In fact, the barren white screen is actually pretty boring, despite the fun the company often has with its name written out there about the search bar.
But the good news is that you're not stuck with that plain white background; in fact, you can choose from thousands of different background images, so your Google searches will always start with an image you love.
And as changing a Google background only takes a few seconds, you can change it as often as you please, be that seasonally, weekly, or first thing in the morning each and every day. Here's how to do it.
Change your Google background image
First, fire up the Google Chrome browser. And if you're using Safari or Firefox or some other browser, close it down and switch to Chrome, as it's the only option that allows for background alterations.
1. Sign into your Google account, then click the three dots stacked atop each other at the top right side of the Google home screen.

6. When you go to the Google homepage, you should see your new background spread out across the page around the central search bar.
7. To undo your background and bring back the barren white, repeat these steps and click the words "Reset to default" next to "Themes" in the "Appearances" section of your settings.
And that's that, you can now enjoy a customized search experience. Beyond how your new background will make using Google more enjoyable, using different backgrounds for different accounts will help people who share a computer remember to log into their account, and to log out of any other users' account, as well.
Using personalized backgrounds is a good idea for the shared family computer as well as for a computer in a school's lab, a library, or of course the workplace.
