How the goddaughter of Prince Charles ditched England to run her own business in the Bahamas
Hicks is the granddaughter of the last vice-roy of India. Prince Charles is her godfather, and she was a bridesmaid in his wedding to the late Princess Diana in 1981.
But when she was 18, she left home with her backpack and set off around the world. She ended up in Harbour Island in the Bahamas, where her father, notable design icon David Hicks, had built a home modeled after the Egyptian Temple of King Zozer.
She went to a neighboring island, where she met partner David Flint Wood. Twenty years and five kids later, they still haven't left.
In February 2015, Hicks launched an eponymous e-commerce company with serial entrepreneur Konstantin Glasmacher and Nicholas Keuper, a former managing director with the Boston Consulting Group.
The products, which range from bags and scarves to beauty products and jewelry, are inspired by Hicks' island lifestyle and feature palm fronds, beetles, and other beachy motifs. Hicks - who previously modeled and worked on a line of beauty and home products for Crabtree & Evelyn, as well as a jewelry line for Bloomingdale's - designs all of the products herself.
The products range in price from a $29 hand lotion to a $460 leather tote bag.
