How much Sleep is “Enough”

We won’t mind blowing up our money on the gym to stay fit, but something as basic and important as getting a good sleep misses our priority list too often. As years pass by and a busy schedule begins to consume our days and nights, we start ignoring what is one of the cornerstones of health. It leads to the obvious – a deadly combination of sleeping less than 5 hours during weekdays and making up for it by switching off for more than 12 hours over weekends. This might seem productive for success at work and help you earn laurels professionally, but according to scientific researchers, this is a temporary success mantra you are after. What’s important to know is sleeping less than five hours per night can double your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Moreover, if you don’t sleep enough, your brain’s energy is not replenished. And so, you are more harm than good, not only to your body but also to your work too.
There is also a persistent relationship between lack of sleep and weight gain, insulin resistance and diabetes. But all of these problems can be warded off just by getting the right amount of sleep. That’s all that needs to be done!
