Conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt said Wednesday night that he thought Donald Trump's fiery immigration speech was "very sophisticated" and that the candidate "provided clarity from the beginning of the day to the end."

"It was his very best day of his presidential campaign," Hewitt said on MSNBC.

Trump delivered a primetime speech outlining his immigration policies and doubled down on some of his hardline rhetoric. The speech came hours after he flew to Mexico to meet the country's president and discuss how the two could work together to tackle immigration.

"Donald Trump goes down to Mexico, has a very perfectly normal diplomatic engagement with the president of Mexico … and then comes back and gives a very, very sophisticated speech that I think mirrors - I did 170 interviews with active Republican presidential candidates. That was the mainstream policy what he articulated today," Hewitt said.

Trump's 10-point immigration plan called for securing the US-Mexico border with a "beautiful" and "impenetrable" wall, while deporting the immigrants in the US illegally with a criminal record.

The Republican presidential candidate, however, was still unclear about what exactly he would do with the millions of individuals in the US illegally.

"We do points one through 10 first, and then we'll talk about the other people," Hewitt said. "I think it is a softening. I think it was sophisticated and very powerful."

Hewitt's comments echoed those of Sean Hannity. The Fox News host said the speech represented a "pivotal moment" and was "probably the best day of his campaign."
