Apple CEO Tim Cook’s private jet landed in Mumbai on Tuesday night. The Apple head’s Asia tour has set afloat a ton of rumors of the brand trying to plug slipping sales figures.

Cook started the much talked about India tour with a pre-dawn visit to Mumbai’s iconic Shree Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi, an Indian Express report said. This comes on a pretty hectic day for the Apple CEO as he has a slew of business meetings with several Indian company heads.

At the temple, Cook was seen with Apple India head Sanjay Kaul and Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani. Cook’s widely expected to meet the Reliance Industries Chairman today.

Cook recently said that 4G networks in India will boost iPhone sales in India. Reliance Jio and Airtel have built the country’s largest data networks, and Apple is looking to have solid physical presence in the country that could help in distribution.

“LTE rollout in India just really began this year, and so we'll begin to see some really good networks coming on in India. That will unleash the power and capability of the iPhone in a way that an older network, a 2.5G, or even some 3G networks, would not do," Cook had said in a call to investors last month.

Apart from meeting with heads of leading telcos like Vodafone and Airtel, Cook is expected to meet Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry and Tata Consultancy Services CEO N Chandrasekaran. He’s expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too.

Cook’s India visit is no accident. It’s a planned strategic business tour that will see him personally engaging with top brass business leaders and politicians. He’ll try to convince telcos to sell more iPhones, and woo politicians to allow Apple to sell refurbished iPhones in the country.

After Mumbai, Cook is expected to travel to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi later this week. He’s also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the trip. However, there is no official confirmation from Apple.
